Christian Women’s Job Corps

HopeStreet has held 10 week sessions of Life Skills and GED/pre-GED classes in the Austin area since 1992.  Christian Women’s / Men’s Job Corps is a ministry of the Women’s Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Convention.  We focus resources and meet practical needs of individuals and families through:

• GED / Adult Basic Education Tutoring
• Work Readiness Skills Training
• Life Skills Training
• Food and Clothing Pantry
• Restoring Peace – Building Healthy Relationships

Our Purpose

The purpose of Christian Women’s Job Corps® is to provide a Christian context in which families in need are equipped for life and employment and a missions context in which Christians serve their community.

Work Readiness Training is provided in a classroom setting during two to three sessions a year in English and Spanish.

English as a Second Language and conversational English are taught at our Spanish location; ESL is also taught at Lifebridge.

GED and Pre-GED program

At Hope Street’s GED and Pre-GED Programs, we meet our students “where they are” and encourage them to reach beyond that. Through classroom instruction, individual attention, and peer contribution, our students emerge as confident, empowered individuals. Our class sessions meet twice a year for 10-12 weeks each; we believe that it’s never too late to jump in and start learning.

Career Closet

One of the benefits that participants in Christian Women’s Job Corps classes receive is a trip to our Career Closet near the end of the CWJC class session. Our volunteers help the ladies find outfits, even including accessories, that meet their needs as they prepare to enter the workplace. The personalized, loving treatment our Career Closet volunteers give each participant truly makes them feel special as they prepare to step out into their new ventures.
